Joana Bento de Almeida
Joana is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) in Tasmania, currently investigating the ecology and functional morphology of sponge communities in rocky temperate reefs. Her research interests include reef ecology and conservation, particularly the role of marine invertebrates as indicators of anthropogenic impacts. She previously obtained a bachelor’s degree in marine biology with oceanography form the University of Southampton, UK, and a master’s degree in marine biology from the University of Algarve, Portugal - her home country.
