Steven Robbins
Steven Robbins received his PhD in 2015 from the University of Queensland, where he studied microbial metabolism in subsurface coal seams and the effects of hydrofracture stimulation on these communities. His current work focusses on the microbiomes of coral reefs, using meta-omic techniques to 1) clarify the nature of symbiosis between marine sponges and their microbes, and 2) lead the construction of the Australian Integrated Marine Observing System's (IMOS) Great Barrier Reef Microbial Genomes Database, which seeks to establish a collection of >10,000 microbial genomes from Great Barrier Reef (GBR) seawater via long-read nanopore sequencing to identify microbial indicators of reef stress.
