Jade Fredericks
I am a PhD candidate investigating indigenous ecological knowledge (IEK) in fisheries research by undertaking an assessment of a culturally important food source, Donax deltoides (pipi, eugarie, galaarny). I have a passion for marine conservation and the preservation of cultural knowledge. I studied my Bachelor of Science at James Cook University before travelling and undertaking community engagement roles globally and in remote parts of Australia. I have been fortunate to spend time with traditional owners collecting resources and learning about traditional management practices. These experiences have highlighted the value of indigenous ecological knowledge in providing essential information for fisheries research and management. In my spare time I enjoy immersing myself into the ocean and all the cracks and crevices of rocky and sandy shores as well as the sweet freshwater of our inland rivers.
