Maggie Muurmans
I am a conservation practitioner, social scientist and community engagement specialist using these combined skills to challenge conservation and community development approaches to address complex problems that lie at the heart of peoples that live, interact or depend on natural resources. I have over 20 years experience in community based conservation & engagement in Europe, Latin America, Asia and Oceania. My projects include the establishment of community conservation areas, protected area management and alternative livelihood development. I have managed engagement programs reaching approx. 10.000 people each year and employed as a strategic learning and innovation lead. I am currently a PhD candidate at Griffith University researching community engagement in conservation in low income countries. As a day job, I work for the Department of Environment and Science towards the SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy.
