Daniela Alarcon- Ruales
A marine ecologist with more than 10 years of research experience in conservation focusing on migratory species and protected area management. Daniela´s work has centered on studying sea turtles and cetaceans in the Galapagos Islands and the main threats affecting these species.
At the moment, her studies are focusing on the population structure of blue whales, and bottlenose dolphins in the equatorial region with the primary goal of contributing scientific information for the conservation of cetaceans as mitigators for climate change, this work is part of her doctoral studies at the HDR program at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Australia.
Additionally, Daniela works as an emblematic project coordinator at the Galapagos Science Center, focusing on citizen science and experiential education.
She has participated in sailing activities around Galapagos, the Pacific, and Antarctica as part of research activities and outreach in global projects.
