Rachel Austin
For the past 5 years I have been involved in seagrass research and restoration at The University of Western Australia. My work is split between Cockburn Sound in Perth and the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. In Cockburn Sound I work closely with OzFish to coordinate the Seeds for Snapper program and am apart of the WAMSI Westport Seagrass Restoration Project that's assessing the suitability and scalablility of seagrass restoration in Cockburn Sound. In Shark Bay I work with and help train the indigenous Malgana Rangers in seagrass science and restoration, I coordinate a hectare-scale project of multi-method seagrass restoration working with industry and indigenous, assist a local ecotourism business to trial new restoration methods, and facilitate other research in Shark Bay, including the discovery of the World's Largest Plant.
